5 steps to maximize the power of reading

How would you like to have a way to get the most from the self development books you already have? Below is a simple 5 step strategy that when you apply it to the invaluable books or course materials, it will really help you if you've got that nagging feeling that you neglected to give yourself the gift of getting the results that you originally imagined that you would always have when you first bought the materials. Once you've mastered these steps the possibilities are endless as to what other learning media they can be applied to.

5 steps to maximize the power of reading

1) Keep your outcome in mind
-before you start reading get leverage on yourself....
-What ultimately would be the greatest outcome you could get from reading this book? a fantastic relationship? a healthy mind and body? Enough financial independence to do what ever you want? a bit of fun & self discovery? Visualize your outcome and get sense of how it will feel when you get your outcome, lock it into your physiology and then start reading
-start right now by imagining what you want from reading this article, what's going to be the knock on effect? which book are you going to buy or read that you know you really really got to get to reading that you haven't yet? are you ready to take action, log off, and get reading that book, as soon as you've finished reading this article?

2) See the Author as teaching directly to you

-When you're reading the book, imagine that the author is standing right in front of you giving you one to one tuition
-Visualize the scene, what's your ideal learning location? are you sat on a beach? Are you in a elegant library with marble pillars and stair cases spiraling up to infinite resources of knowledge? or are you learning best just in your own room?
-Imagine going throughout your day, that the author is just over your shoulder, constantly monitoring your every action giving you feedback and advice

3) Get Invested

-Say if you were to have a one 2 one coaching session how much do you imagine that would cost you? If you had that much money on the line how much more would you focus?
-your time is worth money too, so get involved and invested fully into the author's processes and beliefs when reading the book to get the best value of your time
-to make the most of your time make sure everyday there's not a day that goes by when you're not taking action and applying the knowledge you've learned
-set yourself a target for how much you will ready daily, stick to it, and when you reach your daily target, see if you can do 20% more.

4) Understand that confusion always proceeds understanding
-if you don't get a sentence or concept, read though it again!
-if you still don't get the concept read through it again and again until it fries your brain!
-Then move on to the next step or take a rest to let your unconscious mind process the learnings
-if you get confused, this is a good thing! It means you're about to learn something

5) Trust in the process
-You Cannot Not communicate, its impossible for the author not to impart their wisdom to you through reading the book
-Step by step guides, processes or models just like this one are reversed engineered from results
-You'll only get the results if you strictly adhere to the process and take on the what the author states as 100% true, and take massive action
-once you're getting the results feel free to experiment and do you own thing, if you keep getting the results and have got your own process I'd love to hear and learn from you

Something that made sadness well up inside of me, then made me realise I don't have real problems at all and I'm grateful to be living how I am

When she first arrived in Sweden after her rescue from a Nazi concentration camp, Judith Popinski was treated with great kindness.

She raised a family in the city of Malmo, and for the next six decades lived happily in her adopted homeland - until last year.

In 2009, a chapel serving the city's 700-strong Jewish community was set ablaze. Jewish cemeteries were repeatedly desecrated, worshippers were abused on their way home from prayer, and "Hitler" was mockingly chanted in the streets by masked men.

"I never thought I would see this hatred again in my lifetime, not in Sweden anyway," Mrs Popinski told The Sunday Telegraph.

"This new hatred comes from Muslim immigrants. The Jewish people are afraid now."

Malmo's Jews, however, do not just point the finger at bigoted Muslims and their fellow racists in the country's Neo-Nazi fringe. They also accuse Ilmar Reepalu, the Left-wing mayor who has been in power for 15 years, of failing to protect them.

Mr Reepalu, who is blamed for lax policing, is at the centre of a growing controversy for saying that what the Jews perceive as naked anti-Semitism is in fact just a sad, but understandable consequence of Israeli policy in the Middle East.

On Being Grateful

A concept that's been coming up a lot for me this year is having an attitude of gratitude or in other words (that resonate more for me) Being grateful for what you already have.

I the last week or so I've been really making the most of this new understanding I have about it.

I like to learn from different teachers and sources, but it was Wayne dyer's writing that made me re-consider all my teachings on gratitude.

He was saying as a way of practicing the Tao, we need to be grateful for what we have already, that when we are purchasing something we should be patient and think whether we really need it, not buy it, buy it as a gift for someone else or give the equivalent money to charity. He says if you do buy it, you've got let yourself be totally grateful for this.

So this week I've been taking the things I have already bought and being grateful for them and I've found as a result I'm experiencing greater joy from the things I already own that I'm being really grateful for.

I'm really grateful for this new game I bought, you get to ski around and its physically rewarding (to some extent), and it brings me a lot of joy.

I'm really grateful for my job, being able to come in everyday and do work that stimulates me and the people I work with.

I got this morning I told myself to be more grateful for my room, so I did a bit of tidying and I found cd I bought almost about a month ago that I didn't even take out of the wrapping yet!

So I thought I should show my gratitude, I put the cd on and it was great! I listened to the cd while I was exercising and really enjoyed and was grateful for being able to have the experience for listening to it.

Now I'm curious about gratitude, because there must be other things I'm not acknowledging in my life, that could really enhance my experience if I acted with more gratitude for the things I have already. A great thing is, that having the attitude of gratitude will make you think differently about your goals in life as well. Sometimes I think I'm setting goals because I think the results will make me happy, but really the goals should be re-considered in the light of gratitude, because I definitely think that once I'm on the path to my goals I'm feeling happier, so the motivation has changed slightly, and I need to reconsider where my motivation is, where my leverage is, in order to keep up momentum, and redefine the goal with a new appreciation for what I already have and what the goal will bring me.

Thanks for reading :)

Carl Jung says... (taken from a email to a friend)

According to Carl Jung; he believed that symbolism in dreams is caused by a conflict of the conscious and unconscious mind... so the unconscious mind is trying to tell the conscious mind something. For example if you smoked cigarettes you might worry about what it does to your health, but you might consciously suppress this, so you can enjoy smoking, ... but the unconscious mind still has to worry about it. But if you didn't smoke it could be something entirely different like spending more money than you have and then suppressing that fear, the more and longer you suppress it, the harder it is to undo.

Teeth falling out is a common dream, but I wouldn't try to find a specific meaning to it, but I'd just take it that something in life isn't quite balanced and that you need to take a step back, take stock of things. the fear of getting older, is based around a fear of impermanence and that you need to cultivate acceptance of what's in your life rather than trying to resist change. Or not....

Frog Story

A friend of mine told me a story about a bunch of little
frogs who decided to have a race up a huge tower.

Whomever hops to the top of the tower first would be the winner,
they determined.

A huge crowd gathered around the little frogs. No one believed the
tiny frogs even had a chance at making it to the top of the tower.

People from the crowd heckled the little guys with: "You're way too
small to climb that tower, you'll never make it!"

And guess what?

Heaps of frogs slid off the tower.

The crowd heckled louder, and the rest of the frogs tumbled down -
except for one. The crowd continued to berate and snicker at him.
But he slogged his way to the top.

Do you know why?

He was deaf.

Review of a local NLP meet up in dublin

It was a bit like holding a mirror, and seeing what I thought i wanted from a relationship was mixed up with what I needed to cultivate more of in my life. In addition of all the things I needed to cultivate, the driving force behind the purpose for all these needs, for me specifically, is "time" . In other words all the things I thought I needed from a relationship are born out of the need to manage, make better use of, and find more fuffilling use of my time. In the past not having time had become a inacurrate belief framework that justified not having a relationship, but now I realise that I need to have a balance between my relationships, and my insatiable desire for achievment and never ending constant self improvement. Its now my intent, to love with all my heart, all of creation, including myself, whist simultanously keeping myself driven towards goals, which become more aligned with my real deep seated needs and desires as time goes by.
